Thanks to the support of Resuscitation Council UK’s Community Grant Scheme, Meridian Football Club has been able to organise a Resuscitation Awareness and Football Event - bringing vital life-saving skills and community spirit together.

One morning, BBC News presenter Rich Preston was at home when his phone sounded a loud alarm. It was an emergency alert from the GoodSAM app, telling him that one of his neighbours was having a cardiac arrest.

Morgan MacRae, a 23-year-old Rams Rugby player, made a return to the field just months after experiencing a cardiac arrest. The incident occurred while MacRae was at home and came without warning. His heart stopped suddenly, leaving him unresponsive and fighting for his life. MacRae’s girlfriend was the first to respond, initiating CPR until paramedics arrived.

Professor Gavin Perkins, President of Resuscitation Council UK (RCUK), has received an MBE in His Majesty the King’s New Year Honours List for services to resuscitation science.

Resuscitation Council UK (RCUK) is delighted to announce that Professor Gavin Perkins has officially taken on the role of President of RCUK as of 28 November 2024. 

The pathophysiology of children means that in illness they are generally at higher risk of a primary respiratory arrest than adults. Therefore, for some patients it may be very appropriate to intervene with respiratory-based resuscitation without proceeding to cardiac compressions if the heart eventually stops – hence a recommendation for ‘modified CPR’ that may emphasise respiratory-focused interventions.

To mark Restart a Heart Month, Resuscitation Council UK (RCUK) has today launched a powerful new CPR awareness campaign, ResusReady, to help save more lives from a cardiac arrest, particularly where inequalities in resuscitation exist.

Resuscitation Council UK (RCUK) has teamed up with the Scottish Minister for Public Health and Women’s Health to help cardiac arrest survivors and their families make the best possible recovery.
