The Department for Education has today (20 January 2023) announced the rollout of defibrillators to every state school. Resuscitation Council UK welcomes this life-saving announcement.

Rebecca Langley was just 30 when she was diagnosed with stage three bowel cancer in 2017, needing surgery to remove her colon and four tumours.

But a severe reaction to the chemotherapy, given six weeks after the surgery, led to Rebecca having two seizures and a series of four cardiac arrests, landing her in intensive care for seven days fighting for her life. 

Resuscitation Council UK welcomes new research findings about defibrillation strategies for refractory ventricular fibrillation. RCUK will make any necessary changes to its guidelines following the forthcoming ILCOR update.  

Oti Mabuse, the Strictly Come Dancing star, has created a new TikTok dance to increase awareness about performing CPR. The pro dancer partnered with Resuscitation Council UK to record new moves to Olly Murs’ hit classic 'Heart Skips a Beat'.

On Wednesday 19 October, Resuscitation Council UK will be raising awareness of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) at the Brentford FC fixture against Chelsea FC. 

RCUK has published a position paper setting out why DfE, the Department for Health & Social Care, and relevant public health bodies, should request, where possible, at least one public-access device per school.
