President of RCUK receives MBE in His Majesty the King’s New Year Honours List

Professor Gavin Perkins MBE, RCUK President

Professor Gavin Perkins, President of Resuscitation Council UK (RCUK), has received an MBE in His Majesty the King’s New Year Honours List for services to resuscitation science.

Professor Perkins officially took on the role of President of Resuscitation Council UK (RCUK) on November 2024. He joined RCUK as Vice-President in 2022, after chairing the ALS Subcommittee and playing a key role in the development of the e-ALS course.

With a strong research focus on cardiac arrest, including leading the PARAMEDIC trials and OHCAO Registry, he is widely recognised for his contributions to resuscitation science.

A leading expert in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), Professor Perkins has been undertaking and publishing resuscitation research for more than 30 years and has published more than 500 papers. He also played a key role in the underpinning research which informed the development of the Recommended Emergency Care Treatment Plans (ReSPECT).

Professor Perkins is also Dean of Medicine for the Warwick Medical School at University of Warwick, Consultant in Intensive Care Medicine at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust, and Non-executive Director of University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust.

This award recognises the contributions of the teams who have made this work possible. I remain passionate about continuing our efforts to improve outcomes for patients and their families facing the devastating consequences of cardiac arrest.”
