We are delighted that Professor Gavin Perkins has joined the impressive and elite group of notable individuals who have been honoured since 1985 as a 'Giant' in resuscitation by the International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR).
ILCOR bestows the title of 'Giant' on only five individuals every five years. All ILCOR Giants are recognised by their ILCOR peers for their outstanding commitment and careers in the field of resuscitation science, and significant contributions to saving lives.
Gavin follows the path of previous RCUK giants Professor Douglas Chamberlain, Dr Peter Baskett, Dr David Zideman and Professor Jerry Nolan.
Gavin holds leadership positions at RCUK, the ERC and at ILCOR. He is currently the chair of RCUK's Community and Ambulance Resuscitation (CARe) subcommittee. Gavin led the ERC 2021 Guidelines process and played a central role in the development of the recently published RCUK 2021 guidelines too. Among the list of his many achievements is that he was responsible for developing and implementing the OHCA outcomes registry at the University of Warwick. This is one of the few truly national registries in the world is being used to generate data that will help to inform cardiac arrest epidemiology and outcomes.
