Case Study: Paul’s Legacy gives CPR training to defib guardians across the North Coast

Paul’s Legacy was established in 2021 following the sudden loss of Paul Murray, who suffered a cardiac arrest at home. Since then, the organisation has been dedicated to raising awareness of heart conditions, increasing access to heart screenings, and ensuring more defibrillators are available, accessible, and registered within the local community.

A key part of their work is building people’s confidence in using these lifesaving devices. With support from Resuscitation Council UK’s Community Grant Scheme, Paul’s Legacy has been able to provide CPR training to those responsible for defibrillators across the North Coast. Working with businesses and organisations that host defibrillators, the initiative has reached individuals from a wide range of backgrounds, all keen to develop their lifesaving skills.

The training covered essential topics, including recognising a cardiac arrest, understanding how a defibrillator works, and learning the basics of CPR. These interactive two-hour sessions were fully booked, with participants describing them as both informative and engaging. Attendees left feeling more confident in their ability to act in an emergency—an important step in creating a community that is ResusReady.

Due to the success of these sessions, further training is planned for April, ensuring even more people gain the knowledge and skills to make a difference when it matters most.
