1. General

1.1 Course Directors are accountable for all aspects of the course including the welfare of the faculty and candidates. Although duties may be delegated, the Course Director is still ultimately responsible.

1.2 Course Directors must be familiar with the statements "Disabled Candidates attending Resuscitation Council (UK) courses" and "Dealing with the apparently incompetent candidate during Resuscitation Council (UK) courses".

2. Pre-course

2.1 The Course Director must ensure that:

3. During the course

3.1 The Course Director must convene a faculty meeting prior to the start of the course. At this time, it is important to ensure that all faculty are:

3.2 Instructor Candidates must be allocated appropriate faculty members as their mentors.

3.3 At the start of the course, the Director must:
  • facilitate a brief introduction of the faculty and candidates
  • give an overview of the course programme
  • detail the requirements for successful completion of the course
  • outline the criteria used for selecting Instructor Potentials
  • provide details of specific housekeeping issues.

3.4 The Course Director must be present throughout the entire course.

3.5 During the course, the Course Director should identify and facilitate appropriate faculty meetings at which any concerns of the faculty can be discussed.

3.6 Following the assessment stations, a final faculty meeting must be held, during which:
  • the course completion status of all candidates is decided
  • any course organisational problems are addressed
  • all relevant paperwork relating to the candidates is completed.

3.7 The Course Director must ensure effective communication of the final results to the candidates. This must include appropriate information to candidates who have unsuccessfully completed the course.

4. Post course

4.1 Ensure all relevant paperwork is completed and forwarded to the Resuscitation Council (UK) as per the regulations.

4.2 Investigate and report any complaints. Any recommended remedial action must be identified.

4.3 Provide each Instructor who took part on the course with a photocopy of the evaluation summary as provided by the EPLS Co-ordinator.
